Located in the quaint harbor village of Grand Marais, Minnesota, on Lake Superior’s beautiful North Shore, the Harbor House Grille is a cozy neighborhood restaurant serving up the tastiest handcrafted food for you to enjoy. We believe good food makes people happy. Chef & owner, Ed Straub makes simple, delicious meals using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Whether you are looking for something hearty or healthy, relax and savor a meal at OUR table, while overlooking the serene water of the greatest of the Great Lakes.

In light of the current global uncertainty, we've made some changes. We are taking a more casual approach to eating, offering counter service and encouraging take out and dining al fresco with a beautiful Lake Superior view. Although we've changed our concept slightly, we are still serving up the same great food and offering up the same great service with a smile (albeit behind a mask).

We are located right on Highway 61, on the west end of Grand Marais.  We'll be on the left side of the road if you're coming from Duluth, and the right side if you're coming from Grand Portage/Thunder Bay.  We're right next to the log building, Grand Marais Pharmacy. 

Our Story

Harbor House Grille, a small family owned business, was started in 2012, by head Chef Ed Straub and his wife Cindy. We are small and we like it that way! Being hands-on owners allows us to create delectable meals using best of the season ingredients while ensuring each person entering our door receives the ultimate attention to detail for the best possible dining experience. We are passionate about what we do here at Harbor House Grille and look forward to sharing that passion with you! Whether ordering  take out or enjoyed on our outdoor patio with a spectacular Lake Superior view, come dine at OUR table!

Like us, craft beer brew masters have a real passion for what they do, which fits in with our vision of providing the tastiest options for our guests dining pleasure. We hand select between 8 & 10 varieties of craft beer on tap for you to enjoy. Great beer from crafters like Bent Paddle, Castle Danger, Fulton, Great Lakes, Schells, Surly and Voyageur Brewing Co can be had here. We also offer domestic beer Coors Light, MGD, Sam Adams, Burning Brothers Pyro Gluten Free Beer & non-alcoholic selections.

In addition to our hand selected beer, we have an equally enticing wine list featuring vineyards from all around the world including Australia, Italy & France and some a little closer to home such at North Shore Winery, as well, all hand selected by front of house manager, Cindy.

Eco – community Statement


Growing up in Grand Marais, we recognize it as a special place and do all that we can to preserve its beauty.  We reduce our use of petroleum based products whenever possible. We recycle and compost as much as possible. We collect rainwater and use it to water our gardens, where we grow many of the herbs we use in the dishes on our menus. We invested in our building making many improvements to make it energy efficient and decrease our carbon footprint. We invest in our community by actively supporting many local efforts. We invest in our people by providing a caring and warm environment to share our real food, served by real people to create real connections.  Come join our table!

 

Reservation Policy


Harbor House Grille is a small restaurant, with limited seating. We will no longer be able to accommodate reservations. Our service will be first come, first serve.

Other Policies

Separate checks can be accommodated, however, please understand much more time is required to process each guest check and separate payment. Reducing the number of checks as much as possible, is appreciated.

We do allow guests to bring in their own wine with the exception of any wines on our wine list. There is a corkage fee of $20 per bottle.

Guests with food allergies or dietary restrictions should inform their server at the beginning of the meal, prior to ordering. Please discuss these allergies or restrictions with your server in detail so your meal may be adjusted, if needed. Any adjustments may incur a charge, to be determined by the chef or manager.

Any prepared foods brought into Harbor House Grille will incur a $5 per plate charge.

All parties of 8 or more will have an automatic gratuity of 20% added to the final bill.
